Shadow of the Tomb Raider Achievements

Save up to 98% on Steam games with amazing, exclusive bundles from Fanatical

Before we check out all of the Shadow of the Tomb Raider achievements, I’d like to say it’s wise to play the game on easy mode. You’re able to find things and get through the game easier. Once you unlock New Game+, you can choose Deadly Obsession, and obtain some of the achievements below easier (maybe not a lot easier, but it’s a cheating kind of way).

Some of the achievements are missable. Some of the achievements are obtained through normal progression of the game.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Achievements

Archeologist

Complete an Artifact Collection.

You can unlock Artifact Collections by finding all artifacts (or relics, as I like to call them) for a specific collection. You can view the collections in the TAB menu.

Asking Price

Buy an item from a merchant.

There are three different areas that have merchants, and they are:

  • Kuwaq Yaku
  • Paititi (The Hidden City)
  • Mission of San Juan

You only have to buy a single item from one of the merchants to get this achievement.

Back to Where We Started

Return to Paititi.

Automatic achievement while doing the main campaign.

Beast of Legend

Defeat the Nahual.

You’ll need to complete the side mission “Retrieve the Champion’s Bow” in Paititi. You’ll get the achievement once you return to Uchu.

Better Equipped

Get 3 pieces of equipment.

Head to one of the merchants in the game and buy any 3 pieces of equipment to unlock this achievement.

Chain Gang

Perform the Serpent’s Fury 3 times.

You’ll need to have the skill Serpent’s Fury, located in the green skill tree. Acquire it by first acquiring Serpent’s Strike.

Once you’ve done that, stealth-kill a pair of enemies three different times, either by finding enemies that are doubled up, or by using a checkpoint restart.

Como te Llama

Pet 5 llamas.

You’ll find several llamas in Paititi. Just know you’ll have to pet different ones, and not the same one.

Completionist

Reach 100% completion.

Are you ready to reach 100% completion in Shadow of the Tomb Raider? If you’ve beaten the main campaign and still need more things, then that’d be a yes. To get full completion, you’ll need to:

  • Find all 378 Collectibles
  • Complete all Artifact Collections
  • Finish all side quests
  • Complete 15 Challenges

None of these can be missed if you continue your game after completion. And it’s also best to do it on easy mode, unless…you want a challenge, I guess. Maybe you’re just really hardcore.

Dia de Muertos

Remove the dagger from the Temple of the Moon.

This achievement is obtained through normal progression of the main campaign.

Deadly Obsession

Complete Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Deadly Obsession difficulty.

This game unlocks on New Game +, so congrats on finishing the game. Now everything from your previous game is transferred to this one. It’s best to do a previous playthrough on easy mode, because you can obtain everything a lot easier and have more carry over to help you out on Deadly Obsession.

Hope you know where you’re going, because the game isn’t going to give you much to go on.

Dr. Croft

Complete all Artifact Collections.

This is one of the achievements you’ll need in order to also obtain “Completionist.” You’ll probably need to complete the entire game and go back into it to fully gather what you need.

Family Ties

Free Unuratu from prison.

This achievement is obtained through normal progression of the main campaign.

Fire of Life

Enter the Temple of Life’s inner chamber.

This achievement is automatic through progression of the main campaign.

First Blood

Perform a Stealth Takedown from a mud-covered wall.

At times there will be enemy encounters where you can cover Lara in mud. Once she’s covered, find a mud-covered wall where you can easily take down an enemy from and you’ll acquire the achievement.

First Steps

Purchase a Skill.

A simple enough achievement–you just need to purchase a single skill.

Good Samaritan

Complete 8 Side Missions.

There are 13 side missions in total, and I believe you need to complete all of them. If that’s the case, you can accept all missions within the towns of Kuwaq Yaku, Paititi, and Mission of San Juan.

You can spot the quest givers by being near them while using Survival Instincts, or just by talking to the townsfolk and finding out where they are that way.

The side missions are:

  1. Deal with the Pillagers
  2. Find Takiy’s Dice
  3. Seek Out the Outcasts
  4. Retrieve the King’s Horn
  5. Retrieve the Savior’s Amulet
  6. Free the Rebels
  7. Save Colqui
  8. Rescue Hakan
  9. Retrieve the Champion’s Bow
  10. Explore the Local Mysteries
  11. Investigate Sumaq’s Mother
  12. Decipher the Murals
  13. Stop the Ritual

Gunslinger

Perform 3 headshots in 3 seconds with the pistol.

Whenever you get to an enemy area and there are three people together, it’s the perfect time to perform 3 headshots with your pistol. Make sure to save the game before you do this, just in case. There are several instances where you could get this achievement.

Heart of the Serpent

Find the Mission of San Juan.

This achievement can be obtained through progression of the main campaign.

Hearts and Minds

Retrieve Manko’s Necklace.

You’ll have to complete two side missions:

  • Retrieve the King’s Horn
  • Retrieve the Savior’s Amulet

Help thy Neighbor

Complete a Side Mission.

Missions can be found within the towns of Kuwaq Yaku, Paititi, and Mission of San Juan.

You can spot the quest givers by being near them while using Survival Instincts, or just by talking to the townsfolk and finding out where they are that way.

The side missions are:

  1. Deal with the Pillagers
  2. Find Takiy’s Dice
  3. Seek Out the Outcasts
  4. Retrieve the King’s Horn
  5. Retrieve the Savior’s Amulet
  6. Free the Rebels
  7. Save Colqui
  8. Rescue Hakan
  9. Retrieve the Champion’s Bow
  10. Explore the Local Mysteries
  11. Investigate Sumaq’s Mother
  12. Decipher the Murals
  13. Stop the Ritual

I Believe Hakan Fly

Rescue Hakan from the cultists.

This is an automatic side mission called “Rescue Hakan” that you can complete to earn the achievement.

In the Moment

Kill 10 enemies while Focus is active.

You’ll need to have the skill “Scales of the Serpent” (green section) in order to craft Focus Herbal Mixtures. With Focus active, takedown enemies with either stealth kills, or via your pickaxe if you happen to be spotted.

Areas can be farmed via checkpoint restarts, but make sure to do the kills while Focus is active.

Last known Position

Lose the enemy 10 times.

You’ll need to be detected by the enemy for this to initiate, and then hide from them while they’re searching for you. It’s easier to leave one enemy alive and toy with them by doing a checkpoint restart over and over as you keep getting detected and hiding.

Legendary Hunter

Hunt and loot 5 rare animals.

Rare animals show up as red in Survival Instincts and will attack you on sight. While they can be found without the use of a talent, “Eagle’s Grasp” (in the blue section) helps by increasing your chances of finding said rare animals:

  • Jaguar (Peruvian Jungle)
  • Black Wolf (Mission of San Juan)
    OR
    (The Hidden City)
  • Empress Jaguar (Mission of San Juan)

Like a Shadow

Stealth takedown 25 enemies.

A fairly simple achievement. You can find several enemies throughout the game to stealth kill, or you could use the checkpoint restart system.

Just sneak up to an unsuspecting enemy and stealth kill them.

Don’t forget you can use distractions to lure someone somewhere, throw smoke bombs so they temporarily can’t see you, or use the skill Serpent’s Fury to take down two close enemies at once.

Look, Over There!

Kill 3 enemies while they are distracted.

Here’s an easy one. You can throw different things to distract an enemy, then go in for a stealth kill. You can do this throughout the game, not all at one time.

Made to Endure

Takedown 10 enemies while Endurance is active.

You’ll need to have the skill “Heart of the Jaguar” (red section) in order to craft Endurance Herbal Mixtures. While the Endurance is active, either takedown enemies with stealth kills, or with your pickaxe if you happen to be spotted. Weapons won’t count.

Areas can be farmed with the checkpoint restarts, but make sure to do these kills before the Endurance wears off.

Makeshift Arsenal

Fully upgrade a weapon.

You’ll need to have the skill Raposa’s Wit in order to fully upgrade weapons. You can then buy the upgrades at base camps.

It’s recommended that you fully upgrade a weapon that you’re partial of, otherwise you may run low on resources. You can buy more from vendors or find resources in the open world.

Marksman

Perform 20 headshots with the bow.

This one should be easy enough–even for those of you who prefer to use other weaponry. You can shoot enemies while in their dedicated locations, but leave one alive, and restart the checkpoint and repeat the process for one area if you want.

New Heights

Complete a climb after finding the Overhang Climbing Gear.

This achievement is obtained automatically through the main story progression.

On the Go

Craft special ammunition 50 times.

Special ammunition is different from your regular kind. Some of them you’ll have to have specific skills, but one of the main (and easiest) special ammunition would have to be your fire arrows. You should get this achievement easily by simply using special ammo throughout the playthrough.

One with the Jungle

Complete Shadow of the Tomb Raider on One with the Jungle difficulty.

You can choose to play the game on this difficulty, or you can do Deadly Obsession on New Game + to get this achievement, because the difficulties stack. Kind of cheating, right?

Path of the Stars

Decipher the Path of the Stars.

The first achievement you’re going to obtain automatically through main campaign progression.

Playing with Fire

Burn 2 enemies simultaneously.

You’ll be needing to create a Molotov Cocktail in order to obtain this achievement. Once you have the cocktail, throw it toward a group of enemies, and voila.

Point of Interest

Learn of 5 interesting locations from civilians.

Whenever you see someone that’s available for a chat (via a chat icon over their head, or illuminated yellow with Survival Instincts), you can talk to them and they may share some insight on different locations.

People you can find are in the following locations:

  • Kuwaq Yaku
  • Paititi (The Hidden City)
  • Mission of San Juan

Queen of the Damned

Make an unlikely ally.

This is an automatic achievement as you progress through the main storyline.

Quite the Adventure

Finish the main storyline.

You automatically get this achievement from the main storyline. (Obviously.)

Recipe for Disaster

Survive the flood.

This achievement can be obtained through normal progression of the main campaign.

Resting Places

Uncover 3 Crypts’ secrets.

You’ll need to go through at least 3 crypts within the game and raid the sarcophagi within them. After you interact with them, you’ll be rewarded, and be on your way to this achievement, as well as being a completionist.

Rite of Passage

Complete Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Rite of Passage difficulty.

You can choose to play the game on this difficulty, or you can do Deadly Obsession on New Game + to get this achievement, because the difficulties stack. Kind of cheating, right?

Sixth Sense

Hunt and kill 10 enemies while Perception is active.

You’ll need to have the skill “Eye of the Eagle” (blue section) in order to use the ability of Perception. When this is active, you’ll need to takedown enemies through either stealth or with your pickaxe if you’re spotted. Weaponry won’t count.

You can farm an area with checkpoint restarts, and don’t forget to do takedowns while Perception is active.

Smart and Resourceful

Complete Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Smart and Resourceful difficulty.

You can choose to play the game on this difficulty, or you can do Deadly Obsession on New Game + to get this achievement, because the difficulties stack. Kind of cheating, right?

Specialized

Earn all Skills in one category.

In order to achieve this, you’ll need to have completed all Challenge Tombs, because certain skills only unlock from doing them.

You only need to choose one category (red, blue, or green), to fill up with skills, and you can always save beforehand on multiple save slots so you don’t screw up.

Stele Hunter

Complete 3 Challenge Tombs

There are 9 Challenge Tombs in total throughout the game. In order to gain certain skills, you’ll need to complete these tombs by officially interacting with the stele within them. Some of the tombs you won’t be able to access until you get specific gear.

Surprise!

Perform 5 Eagle’s Talon takedowns.

You’ll automatically unlock the Eagle’s Talon skill during the main mission “Path of the Dead.”

The game forces you to use this skill at a certain point, and once you’ve completed it once, you can restart checkpoint and do it four more times to unlock the achievement.

Survival Instincts

Defeat the Empress Jaguar.

This achievement is automatically unlocked through progression of the main campaign.

Thanksgiving

Shoot a turkey with a Flare Round.

You’ll need to have the skill “Serpent’s Glint,” found in the green section. It’ll automatically give you flare rounds to use. The turkeys are found in the region “Mission of San Juan” near the base camp of “Ruined Tower.” They typically hide in bushes, so scare them out, then fire away.

That’s a Knife!

Fully upgrade the knife.

For this, you’ll need to do two things, in a specific order:

  1. The first upgrade is bought from the Paititi merchant for 2900 gold.
  2. The second upgrade is from the side mission, “Rescue Hakan.”

This won’t work if done in the opposite order.

The Chosen One

Find the Silver Box of Ix Chel.

This achievement is obtained through normal progression of the main campaign.

The Hidden City

Find Paititi.

This achievement is obtained automatically through story progression of the main campaign.

The Underworld

Get out of the Cenotes alive.

This achievement is obtained automatically through progression of the main campaign.

Thread the Past

Restore 5 vestige outfit pieces.

You can acquire vestige outfits via looting sarcophagi at the end of crypts, buying them from merchants, and from certain side missions.

There are ten vestige outfits you can get, but you’ll need to restore them at a campfire via crafting materials.

To the Nines

Restore and equip a matching vestige outfit.

You can find vestige outfits after completing certain side missions, finding them in crypts, and buying from vendors. Matching sets look similar and have the same words in their namesake.

Restore them at a campfire via some resources you can acquire in the world.

Tomb Raider

Complete all Challenge Tombs in the main campaign.

There are 9 Challenge Tombs total found within the main game. You’ll need to complete each one of these in order to obtain this achievement. Some tombs can only be entered when you get a specific piece of equipment first.

Total Party Kill

Kill 5 enemies with friendly fire.

You’ll need to have the skill “Jaguar’s Fear” (red section) in order to craft Fear Arrows. When you shoot a Fear Arrow at an enemy, they’ll be confused and shoot their own men.

You can restart your checkpoints and continuously do this to someone until you receive the achievement.

Treasure Hunter

Find and open all the Conquistador treasure chests.

You’ll need to find the treasure chests as part of the Completionist achievement. They can be opened with a Lockpick.

Treasures from the Past

Decipher a monolith.

There are monoliths all throughout the game, and by increasing Lara’s language proficiency in a specific language, you’ll be able to read one. You can do this by picking up relics and reading about them–and don’t forget to inspect them if there’s something else that could be found.

Turned Tables

Kill 5 enemies while they are searching for Lara.

Become detected by an enemy and while they’re searching look for the perfect chance for a stealth kill. You can do a checkpoint restart by keeping at least one person alive.

Underwater Archeologist

Collect 5 underwater Artifacts.

Since you’re on the hunt for relics anyway, all you’ll need to do for this achievement is find 5 of them that are underwater.

Untold Riches

Gather 40 gold ore.

Gold ore is found, for the most part, in the Challenge Tombs you’ll be doing for 100% completion. They’re also found out in the open world as well.

Unwelcome Guests

Get rid of the pillagers outside of Kuwaq Yaku.

You can earn this achievement by completing the side mission “Deal with the Pillagers.”

Up to the Challenge

Complete 5 Challenges.

While there are 15 challenges that can be found within the game, you’ll only need to complete 5 of them for this achievement.

Zoologist

Collect 20 critters.

You’ll need to have the skill “Owl’s Meal” (blue section) for this achievement, as well as the Makeshift Knife. Once you’ve got them, you can use your Survival Instincts to find spiders and beetles.

  • Spiders will be in caves.
  • Beetles can be found in the jungle.

Don’t shoot them. Instead, when you’re close enough, interact with them to obtain their venom.
